Why Make the 3 Wise Skeleton Heads?
Halloween crochet patterns are always a favorite, but I wanted to create something a little different. The 3 Wise Skeleton Heads crochet pattern combines classic spooky vibes with a playful twist.
Each head represents one of the “wise” figures:
- 🕶️ See No Evil – eyes covered
- 🎧 Hear No Evil – ears covered
- 🤐 Speak No Evil – mouth covered
They’re fun to make, work up quickly, and bring personality to any Halloween display.
Materials Needed for the Skeleton Heads
This free Halloween crochet pattern uses simple stitches and materials most crocheters already have in their stash:
- White or off-white DK acrylic yarn (for a bone-like look)
- Black yarn or embroidery thread for facial details
- 2.5mm crochet hook
- Tapestry needle
- Fiberfill stuffing
- Stitch markers
👉 Finished Size: About palm-sized (depends on yarn and tension).
Making The hands
Each hand is made up of separate 4 fingers and a single thumb. There will be 4 needed for the pattern in total, no sewing required, just crocheting them together to form the palm of the hand.
Thumb (x1 per hand)
As we will be using 4 hands for this project, you will need 4 thumbs, and can work in the round or rows, it shouldn’t make a huge difference.
R1. Start with a Magic Ring, 4SC into it =[4].
R2. 4SC around = [4].
R3. 4SC into the BLO = [4]
FO and weave in the end.
Fingers x4 per hand
R1. Start with a Magic Ring, 4Sc into it = [4].
R2. 4SC around = [4].
R3. 4SC into the BLO to cause a small indent = [4].
R4. 4SC around both loops = [4].
FO and weave in the ends on 3 but DO NOT FO one finger, leave yarn to finish the hand.
Completing the hands
R1. Using the last finger, place 2SC into the first 2 stitches, then take a second finger and place 2SC alone that finger, add a third finger and add 2sc into that one, and then to the last one. You will have a row of the fingers, rotate the hand to continue down the other side. You will have 16 stitches in total and have joined all 4 fingers [16]
R2-3. 16SC around for 2 rows = [16].
R4. (3SC, DEC) repeat to reduce the palm size = [13]
R5. (2SC, DEC) repeat to reduce the palm size = [10]
R6-7. 10SC around and add the thumb during this round, or sew later if you prefer.
Fasten off and make 4 hands in total.
The Wise Skulls
R1. Start with the main white colour to create a MR. Add 6SC into the ring = (6)
R2. INC SC into each stitch = (12)
R3. (SC, INC) x 6 = (18)
R4. (2SC, INC) x 6 = (24)
R5. (3SC, INC) x 6 (30)
R6. SC around = (30)
R7. Now you’d create the underneath black rim. Attach the yarn to the inner BLO loop and 30SC around the BLO = 30
R7-11 BLACK SC around the inner rim [30SC] Can be longer if you want
a longer/deeper nose. This length should just cover the nose length. I FO with a lengthy tail here after FO for embroidering tail.
R7. Continue the WHITE in the FLO of the white.
6sc, 9CH, SK3, 3SC, 9CH, SK3, SC to end. [30] (This creates the eye gaps)
R8. 30SC around to end and evenly into the chain spaces.
[on the 4th SC I hooked the top of the eye CH to the FLO of one of the black loops to anchor it]
R9. SC evenly to inner eye and begin nose gap (3 stitch space). At ST before 3 gap HDC and then 4CH to create this nose gap. SK3 HDC into next ST. SC around.
R10. (3SC dec), 3SC into nose space evenly. DC into first stitch after nose gap. Continue (3SC, dec) to end.
R11. (2sc, dec) around, add STUFFING.
R12. (SC, dec) around.
R13-4. SC x2 rows
r15. dec into the BLO and flatten the bottom. FO.
USE black tail from inner rim to embroider mouth.

There you have it, the heads and hands ready for you to assemble the hands to the heads. You’d have one over the ‘mouth’, one over the ‘eyes’ of another, and two over the ‘ears’ of the third.
