Creativity is never born in a vacuum. For me, the spark comes from the everyday — from the silly antics of my pets, the magical worlds of gaming, and even the strangest finds in real life or pop culture. At Liziloulovecraft, my work is a blend of these inspirations. Whether it’s a crochet pattern, digital painting, or quirky craft project.

In this post, I’ll share how I draw ideas from pets, gaming universes, odd real-world finds, and even trending media like the recent Netflix release K-Pop Demon Hunters.

🐾 Pets as a Source of Creative Inspiration

Pets bring endless joy — and endless ideas. My dogs, Loki, Thor and Bucky, are often right at the center of what I make. From practical crochet projects like pet bandanas and pawprint coasters, to fun and slightly absurd experiments. Just like the infamous “Frankenrabbit” which needs to be made into something, they spark designs that are both functional and playful.

Being surrounded by animals makes me think about how handmade creations can reflect their personalities. Whether it’s a crochet pouch shaped like a paw, a whimsical Halloween accessory, or a portrait sketch, pets are an inspiration. They keep us constantly experimenting.

🎮 Gaming Worlds as Creative Fuel

If you’ve ever played a game like The Elder Scrolls Online, Oblivion, or even dipped into horror titles like Resident Evil, you’ll know how much rich visual inspiration is packed into those worlds.

Fantasy games are especially powerful for artists and crafters. I often find myself sketching creatures, reimagining armour and costumes as crochet patterns. Or simply letting the colours and atmosphere of a digital landscape guide my next piece of digital art.

For example:

  • ESO’s magical pets inspired me to create my own hybrid “Pug-Cthulhu” crochet amigurumi design.
  • Horror games like Resident Evil: Biohazard challenged me with their gritty textures and unsettling environments, which in turn influenced the way I approach mood in my artwork.

Gaming isn’t just an escape — it’s a constant well of creative ideas.

🎬 Pop Culture and Trending Media

Inspiration also comes from what’s trending in the wider world. Right now, Netflix’s K-Pop Demon Hunters is making waves — with its flashy outfits, supernatural themes, and eye-catching aesthetics. It got me thinking about how modern media shapes our art and crafts.

Trends like this bring in a mix of color palettes, character design ideas, and cultural motifs that can be adapted into crochet, digital painting, or themed crafts. They’re a reminder that art doesn’t need to stay in one lane — it can reflect what excites people right now.

🕰 Odd Real-World Finds

And then there are the everyday oddities — the things you’d never expect to inspire art. One recent example was the so-called “Frankenrabbit”, a rabbit with an unusual look that quickly went viral online. While odd, it sparked the idea for one of my quirky tissue holder designs and reminded me that inspiration is everywhere if you’re open to it.

Sometimes it’s a thrifted button, a strange-shaped candle mold, or even packaging materials that push me toward a new craft experiment. These random encounters keep my creativity fresh and unpredictable.

✨ Blending It All Together

What makes Liziloulovecraft unique is this combination of influences. One week I may be working on a Marvel-inspired pet bandana, the next sketching out ideas based on a game character, and then experimenting with a candle mold that refuses to cooperate.

This balance of pets, gaming, odd finds, and trending media ensures that my work is constantly evolving — and hopefully, always surprising. I also find the mixture of content is helpful when we have a heatwave or naughty dogs distracting.

🔮 Final Thoughts

Inspiration doesn’t come from one single place. It’s the mix of what we love — our pets, the games we play, the films we watch, and even the strange oddities of real life — that fuels creativity.

So whether you’re a crafter, artist, or gamer, keep your eyes open. You never know when your dog’s goofy grin, your favourite RPG, or even a viral rabbit will spark your next great idea.
