I’m so excited to share something special with you today—a free crochet pattern for a cute little Curtain Hanger Dog!
This fun project is perfect for adding a touch of personality and coziness to your home. Whether you’re a dog lover (like me!) or just want to make your curtains look extra adorable, this little pup will happily sit and hold them back for you.
The pattern is beginner-friendly but still has plenty of charm for more experienced crocheters. It’s a great stash-busting project, too—you can use whatever yarn colors you like to match your home or even base it on your favorite breed!

What You’ll Need:
- Yarn in your chosen colors
- Crochet hook (size appropriate for your yarn)
- Stuffing for the dog’s body
- Safety eyes/buttons (or embroidery thread for a child-safe option)
- Yarn needle & scissors
- Optional: hoops for tie hands.
The Free Curtain Hanger Dog Pattern
👉 Using a 4.5 hook and fun plushie velvet yarn.
Head: continuous rounds.
R1. 6SC into a MR = 6SC.
R2. INC x6 = 12 SC.
R3-4. SC x12 = 12SC.
R5. 4SC, INC X6, 4SC = 16SC.
R6. 5SC, INC X6, 5SC = 22SC.
R7-8. 22SC.
R9. 21SC, 1INC = 23SC.
Make sure the INC is centred with the mouth zone. You could also add the eye here. Depending on your yarn size this might be 5 stitches apart. Measure your gap.
R10. INC X2, 3SC, 7 DEC, 4SC = 18 SC.
R11. INC X2, 6SC, 2DEC, 6SC = 18SC.
R12. close the gap with dec and sc for odd rounds. continue to closing to form the back of the head.
EARS:
Surface crochet the ear, starting one row behind the eye and head 5 stitches vertically beneath it.
R2: Turn, CH, and crochet back up to the eye.
R3: Turn but do not CH. Slip stitch the first stitch and then crochet the next 3. For the last stitch at the bottom of the ear you could do a small picot.
BODY:
Make a small sausage/oval shape body. You can make this your desired width using continuous rounds.
R1. 6SC INTO A MR.
R2. INC = 12.
R3. (INC, SC) = 18.
R4. You could add an (INC, 2SC) row to make it wider or just skip to a few rows of SC only. This depends how fat and long you want the body.
Decrease accordingly to however wide you went with your increases.
R?. (DEC, SC = 18).
R?. DEC = 12.
R?. DEC = 6. FO a closing tail length and sew the butt shut.
You could sew the arms to the body or add them within the body as you perform your rounds.
ARMS:
Either make longer arms to tie around the curtain, or add wooden rings for the “hands” to clip over the curtain hooks.
R1. CH6, Turn, 5SC.
Continue your desired length for the arm, or to attach a wooden ring, fold the fabric through the ring roughly row 4-5 and SC through both ends to seal it inside like a hairband.
Continue to your desired length, FO and leave a sewing tail. Or you could crochet the arms into body as you go (as I did).
Embroider any remaining facial features and enjoy your curtain hugger.

Tips & Ideas
- Try different yarn textures—chunky yarn makes a cuddly oversized pup, while cotton yarn creates a neat, smaller one.
- Add a little bow, collar, or even a tag with your pet’s name for a custom look.
- Make a pair so each curtain has its own little guardian!
